Key Values

PFLA members have made a commitment to protect key public environmental values on their Managed Forest land. The PFLA's Best Management Practices (BMP) program builds on this committment to achieve the following:

• Protect water quality and fish habitat
• Conserve soil productivity
• Recognize and, through agreement with the provincial government, protect critical wildlife habitat where it cannot be supplied on Crown lands alone.

Managed Forest owners also have a continuing commitment to grow trees. The PFLA believes in results-based forest management that addresses key public environmental values, while preserving the unique management objectives of each private forest owner. The Private Managed Forest Land Regulation is designed to meet this objective. The PFLA believes these same key public environmental values should be protected on all private forest land in BC.
